About the Award:
ISA presents it's Direct Support Professionals Recognition
Award to direct support professionals who demonstrate excellence,
creativity and commitment to assisting and enhancing the
lives of individuals with disabilities. Irwin Siegel Agency,
Inc. is pleased to have created and sponsored this award
over the last seven years and looks forward to another great
year of Supporting Those Who Support Others™. Without
competent and caring direct support staff, quality outcomes
for people with disabilities would be limited, and achieving
interdependence would be increasingly difficult. This is
a great opportunity to recognize a direct support professional

Criteria for Selection:
Self-Determination –
Nominee demonstrates commitment to supporting self-determination,
self-esteem, and meaningful choices for people with intellectual
disabilities.
Leadership – Nominee exhibits leadership
qualities with peers and within his or her work environment.
Nominee serves as a role model for others.
Inclusion – Nominee facilitates inclusion
of people with intellectual disabilities within all aspects
of community life.
Professional Development – Nominee
demonstrates commitment to his or her professional development
by continuing to seek knowledge and gain skills in the field.
Provision of Direct Support – Nominee
provides direct support in a manner that respects the dignity,
culture and rights of people with intellectual disabilities.
Nominee must be currently employed for a minimum of one
year with current organization and
work in a direct care position.

Additional Materials Should Include:
• A narrative by the nominated direct support professional on their
suggestions for encouraging people to make direct support a career.
• A photo of the direct support professional and the consumer(s)
they serve should be included with the application.
(Your agency is responsible for obtaining necessary permission for use
of any photos and due to processing, photos will not be returned).

About the Award:
The Irvin Rutman Award is presented annually
at USPRA’s annual convention in recognition of the
commendable contributions made by Dr. Irvin D. Rutman, Founding
President of USPRA and recipient of the 1991 Beard Award.
Dr. Rutman was the Executive Director of Horizon House for
over 30 years and was the founder of the Matrix Research
Institute. He has played a key role in the development of
the psychosocial profession and continues to play an active
role on the USPRA Board. The United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Association (USPRA) and Irwin Siegel Agency, Inc. (ISA)
present the Irvin Rutman Award each year to an executive
director of a psychosocial program who demonstrates effective
leadership in the psychosocial rehabilitation field and
promotes the mission of USPRA. This award is presented at
USPRA’s annual convention.

Criteria for Selection:
The nominee must be a current executive director
who is a member of USPRA and active at the local level.
The nominee must also have clearly demonstrated leadership
in the field in administering a psychosocial program.
The selection shall be based on contributions in the following
areas.
• Exemplary management
• Leadership
• Board development
• Communication
• Quality programming of a psychosocial program.
